Salvage an Old Piece Of Furniture With This Idea
An easy and inexpensive method of refinishing a hopelessly marred or old dresser chest is to cover it with fabric that matches or blends with draperies, bedspread or wallpaper.
Preparation:
First, determine the amount of fabric required by measuring all surfaces to be covered, adding one inch for overlay. Have available white glue and sandpaper.
Instructions:
1. Remove drawers, pulls or knobs. Then use sandpaper to sand the drawer dividers and all other surfaces to be covered.
2. Cut fabric to fit drawers and to overlap drawer dividers. Cut fabric to fit top and sides. Be sure to cover back of chest unless it is to be against a wall.
3. Brush white glue on front and overlap of one drawer, press fabric in place, taking care to smooth out wrinkles and fitting edges.
4. Let dry.
5. Cover all drawers in same manner.
6. Last, cover top, sides and back of chest.
7. When glue is completely dry replace drawer pulls or knobs.
