How to Create Gorgeous Glassware Scenes
Sandy beaches, desert plains with delicate grasses, and tropical scenes can be brought into your home with the use of glass containers, sand, silk or dried flowers, plants, and wood. These beautiful creations make great conversation starters when placed in the center of a room on the coffee table or dining room, for example. In the bathroom, they can lend an air of fragrance and relaxation. In the bedroom, they can re-create a vacation, day at the spa, or a fond memory. Here are some great ideas to help you make the most out of every room with a gorgeous glassware craft.
Selecting the Perfect Glassware
The most dramatic glassware crafts start with a stunning glass piece. This is like the canvas for a great painting; the glass container you choose will be the foundation for your work of art. Extra tall cylinders, dramatic round fishbowl-styled pieces, or unusual shapes such as rectangles, triangles, or oversized champagne glasses are some great pieces to start with. If you choose a colored hurricane glass, for example, try and select one that will still easily show off the inside contents. Clear glass backgrounds with sprays of color around the bottom perimeter are a great way to get the best of both worlds; clear glass to show off the scene inside and splashes of color for visual interest. Choose something that’s not too busy, however; you don’t want anything taking away from the inside contents.
Beach Scenes
You don’t have to travel the world to get pieces of the beach gathered together for your craft. Sands of all colors are available at craft stores along with seashells and dried flowers, plants, and dried wood. The most beautiful components of a beach scene include driftwood pieces, tall, thin grasses (plastic or dried natural), and tiny tufts of delicate flowers. Try going with as natural a color scheme as possible if you’re looking for a true beach scene. Natural sand (or colored sand, if you prefer) should be added first to your container. You can layer a cylinder or taller container with sand, then seashells, then more sand if you’d like. After the sand layer, carefully place your grasses, dried flowers, plants, and driftwood into the container. The soft color and scent of dried lavender flowers are also popular choices in beach scenes. Seashells of all sizes should be placed in the container last so you can really show them off!
Desert Scenes
Follow the same idea as the beach scene container, but instead of layering sand with seashells, you can use a layer of river rocks or gravel if you’d like. Pieces of faux cactus, dried lavender flowers on tall stalks, tall grasses, and river rocks can all be used to accent your sand layer to create a true-to-life scene. Some crafters like to add in tiny wolf or coyote figurines, tee-pees, or campfire scenes to create a diorama-styled Native American piece. These are really fun to play around with and always draw people’s attention to them!
Tropical Scenes
The tropics can be brought right into your own home with only a few simple variations from the above craft projects. Again, sand is the very best base to use in the container. Think about the tropics and of all of the vibrant colors in the native plants and flowers found there. Choose bright yellow, magenta, orange, and pink faux bromeliads and other tropical succulents to make a realistic and stunning work of art.
With a unique glass container and some basic materials, you can create amazing pieces of art to bring the color and magic of a fond memory, vacation, or place into your very own home!
